Dance History: Chapter 1 – Rallou Manou
Choreographer Yannis Nikolaidis honors Rallou Manou, one of the most significant figures in Greek dance, with the performance "Dance History: Chapter 1 – Rallou Manou," dedicated to her memory, history, and artistic legacy. At the Olympia, Municipal Music Theatre "Maria Callas," for only three performances: Thursday 8, Friday 9, and Saturday 10 May.
The stage time is swift in an attempt to condense the 73 years she lived, becoming the vehicle through which the audience will discover small and large moments of the woman, mother, dancer, choreographer, and founder of the Greek Chorodrama. A multifaceted artist, cultivated in a world that no longer exists and with deep family roots, Rallou Manou was one of the pioneers of modern Greek dance. Today, her name symbolizes the first period of Greek dance and reminds us how nascent it was.
With the four exceptional dancers – Ioanna Apostolou, Natalia Kalogeropoulou, Irene Moraitelli, and Theano Xydia – serving as narrative guides, and with the live performance by composer Antonis Palaskas, they unfold the multifaceted personality of the woman, mother, partner, dancer, choreographer, and teacher who left behind a legacy for future generations: the dance of today.
The performance is a tribute and, at the same time, a nearly blitz-like unfolding of the choreographer's dense life, who artistically endured for almost four decades and alongside whom stood the most established and acclaimed artists of her generation.
